The continuous growth, the development of MES institution under the able and effective leadership of its Chairman and Director has got the approval of Indian Nursing Council, Kerala Nursing Council and Calicut University to start the College of Nursing at MES Medical College Hospital in the year 2004.
MES College of Nursing is functioning in a four storied building with spacious class rooms, most modern teaching technologies, Office and well equipped laboratories for fundamentals of Nursing, Community Health Nursing, Nutrition, Anatomy, Physiology and Computer Science. It is the first college of Nursing in Malappuram District to get attached Medical College Hospital. The annual intake of students is fifty.
MES College of Nursing situated at Malaparamba at Palachode is connected to the Angadippuram to Valanchery road. It is 2 Km close by to the Angadippuram railway station. College of Nursing is attached to the MES Medical College hospital which posses 500 beds with all major specialities.
The college of Nursing has got an excellent library for imparting knowledge to the students. Apart from the academic, the students are encouraged to take part in cultural and sports activities. A team of qualified, experienced, talented and dedicated faculty members have been striving for excellence under the able and effective leadership of this institution.

| PHILOSOPHY OF MES COLLEGE OF NURSING |
The teaching staff of the college of nursing believes that the nurses who prepared under our programme will be able to take up the first level positions in the college, the hospital and the community.

Our concept of nursing education is based on the ICN’s definition of the unique function of the nurse and the sound educational principles.

We believe that we have responsibility in helping the student develop pride in the profession with respect to her/ his future in nursing.

|
The aim of the undergraduates nursing program is to: |
1. Prepare graduates to assume responsibilities as professional, competent nurses and midwives in providing promotive, preventive, curative, and rehabilitative services.

2. Prepare nurses who can make independent decisions in nursing situations, protect the rights of and facilitate individuals and groups in pursuit of health, function in the hospital, community nursing services, and conduct research studies in the areas of nursing practice. They are also expected to assume the role of teacher, supervisor, and manager in a clinical/ public health setting/ school of nursing. |

On completion of the four year B.Sc Nursing program the graduate will be able to: |
1. Apply knowledge from physical. Biological and behavioural sciences, medicine including alternative systems and nursing in providing nursing care to individuals, families and communities.

2. Demonstrate understanding of life style and other factors, which affect health of individuals and groups. |
3. Provide nursing care based on steps of nursing process in collaboration with individuals and groups. |
4. Demonstrate critical thinking skill in making decisions in all situations in order to provide quality care. |
5. Utilize the latest trends and technology in providing health care. |
6. Provide promotive, preventive and restorative health services in time with the national health policies and programmes. |
7. Practice within the framework of code of ethics and professional conduct, and acceptable standards of practice within the legal boundaries. |
8. Communicate effectively with individuals and groups and members of the health team in order to promote effective interpersonal relationships and team work. |
9. Demonstrate skills in teaching to individuals and groups in clinical/ community health settings/ School of Nursing |
10. Participate effectively as members of the health team in health care delivery system. |

University examination shall be conducted ordinarily twice in a year (One regular and one supplementary examination every year.)
|
| 2. |
Candidates shall register for all parts of examination in their first appearance.
|
| 3. |
Candidates who have undergone the prescribed course of study for a period not less than 10 months of the academic year only can appear for the examination. No candidate shall be admitted to any part of the examination unless he / she has secured a minimum of 80 % or above attendance separately in theory classes as well as practical in each subject.
|
| 4. |
A candidate who is absent for a total of more than 60 days continuous or interrupted within a period of three months during an academic year shall not be eligible to continue the course with the same batch of students. He / She may obtain special sanction for readmission with the junior batch from higher authorities (University / DME/ Govt. of Kerala.).
|
| 5. |
A candidate must have minimum 80 % attendance in both theory and practical separately in each subject for appearing the university examinations.
|
| 6. |
Candidates who fail to appear for examination in any part or parts owing to the shortage of required attendance shall make up the lost attendance before appearing for the succeeding examination.
|
| 7. |
If the shortage is beyond the condonable limit the candidate should repeat with the junior batch.
|
| 8. |
Minimum pass marks shall be 50 % in each of the Theory and Practical papers separately for internal examinations.
|
| 9. |
The internal marks shall be signed by the candidate before transmission to the university.
|
| 10. |
Minimum pass marks shall be 50 % in each of the Theory and Practical papers separately for university examinations.
|
| 11. |
A candidate must have 100% attendance in each of the practical areas before award of Degree.
|
| 12. |
A candidate has to pass in theory and practical exam separately in each of the paper.
|

If a candidate fails in either theory or practical paper he /she has to reappear for both the papers. (Theory and Practical).
|
| 14. |
A candidate who fails in any paper or part in the examination may appear for that paper or part in the subsequent examination
|
| 15. |
Maximum number of attempts permitted for each paper is 3 including first attempt.
|
| 16. |
Candidates shall not be admitted to the subsequent higher examination unless the candidate has passed the previous examination.
|
| 17. |
The maximum period to complete the course successfully should not exceed 8 years.
|
| 18. |
Maximum number of candidates for practical examination should not exceed 15 per day.
|
| 19. |
Candidate who pass all parts of examination on the first occasion of appearing there of shall be ranked in order of proficiency as determined by the total marks obtained and shall be arranged in two classes. |

Second Class
Candidates who have passed the examination with an aggregate of 50% and above.
|
 |
First Class
Those who have secured 65 % marks aggregate or above.
|
 |
distinction
Those students who have secured an aggregate of 75 or above marks be awarded distinction. Candidate who pass in first class and who obtain not less than 75% of marks in any subject shall be deemed to have passed with distinction in that subject. Candidates who pass the examination in subsequent appearance shall be ranked only in second class.

Rank in the examination
Aggregate marks of all the 4 years regular examination shall be considered for awarding rank for the B.Sc Nursing. A consolidated mark list consisting of all 4 year examinations shall be given to all the students. |

| POLICIES OF MES COLLEGE OF NURSING |
| |
|
| 1. |
Students will see that the class room and surroundings are kept in order and absolutely clean and tidy.
|
| 2. |
Students will maintain complete silence in the classroom and in the college premises so as to ensure a peaceful atmosphere in the college.
|
| 3. |
Students are required to inspect the notice board daily.
|
| 4. |
After the preliminary period of 12 weeks (3 months) there will be and examination to assess the students ability to continue the course. Successful candidates only will be allowed to continue the course.
|
| 5. |
Students who desire to discuss their problems with the class co- ordinator or principal (personal, professional) will do so with previous appointment. |
| 6. |
Each students conduct, character and behaviour are evaluated every month. If the report is not satisfactory suitable action will be taken by the management which may include termination from the training. |
|

| |
|
| 1. |
Students are expected to be punctual for the class room learning as well as the clinical learning.
|
| 2. |
80% attendance for the theory and 100% attendance of clinical learning is necessary to appear for the examination.
|
| 3. |
Students who have 80% attendance in the clinical learning will be all allowed appearing for the practical examination provided he/ she should make up the attendance to 100 % at the completion of the year.
|
| 4. |
Students will submit all assignment, procedure books, and case books to concerned tutors exactly on the specified dates.
|
| 5. |
Students should complete their requirements as per the university norms in order to appear for the external examinations.
|
| 6. |
Students are expected to keep silence until the class teacher arrives inside the class room.
|
| 7. |
Students are not supposed to possess the mobile phone in the class room as well as in the clinical area.
|
|
| |
| |
|

Six week vacation is given per year which may be planned along with the master rotation and clinical rotation.
|
| 2. |
Sick leave is to be sanctioned by the physician only.
|
| 3. |
All the leaves are entered to the leave register to calculate the attendance.

Students who do not satisfy the required attendance will not be allowed to go for university examination. |

Students should come to the Clinical in the prescribed uniform.
|

Female students must put the hair away from the face and off the neck.
|

Men students are not allowed to wear neckties.
|
| 4. |
Follow the general practices of good grooming.

Wear a minimum of jewelry- it can harbor micro organisms and could injure a client.
|

Avoid large Earrings.
|
| 7. |
Avoid using perfume- Clients may be allergic to them.
|

Wash hands often. Make sure your fingernails are short and clean, clip hangnails. Cutex and eye- tex should be prohibited.
|

Cover cut or opens wounds for your protection.
|
| 10. |
Wear washable clothes, uniform and sweaters.
|
| 11. |
Wear pants long enough to reach your shoe tops.
|
| 12. |
Wear safe and comfortable shoes. Don’t wear sandals or clogs.

Always wear your name tag.
|

Keep mustaches and beards neatly trimmed.

Students will carry in their pocket scissors, pencil, pen (red and blue), scale, tape, measure, stethoscope and a watch on their left hand while on duty.

| STUDENTS NURSES ASSOCIATION ( S. N. A. ) |
All students will be the member of the S.N.A. They will be guided by two of the faculty members acting as S.N.A. advisor and assistant advisor. The elected body of S.N.A will be responsible for the various S.N.A. activities. S.N.A. provides its members opportunities to enjoy the benefit of rapport with other student nurses in different parts of the country and in various programs in nursing.
S.N.A. organizes meeting to discuss professional and educational matters of the unit level every month or as and when required. Holds the state annual conferences jointly with or independent of the state T.N.A.I conferences, organizes national S.N.A. biennial conferences and scientific exhibitions which make the conferences very interesting and educative. Organizes inter district and Interstate tours and sports completions. S.N.A celebrates days of national and International importance particularly those relevant to the discipline and common festivals. It organizes fund raising activities to finance the association. |

The students are divided in to five groups. Each group is organized the under the respective teachers guidance. Every month and whenever necessary the students will be under going the counseling session in order to promote healthy living with in the college and hospital setup. |
