   A brief description about the Department :
 

  The department of Microbiology is a well established department with all the facilities to carry out the academic activities of not only M.B.B.S. but also for B.D.S., B.Sc.Nursing, B.Sc, M.Sc trainees and project trainee students.

It also has a well established laboratory for diagnostic work up of patients attending M.E.S Medical College Hospital, with separate setups for Bacteriology, Virology, Pavasitology, Serology. It also has RNTCP (Revised national Tuberculosis Control Programme) Centre.

Our teaching and non-teaching staff are well qualified and highly dedicated towards their work to cater the needs of students and patients. On an average our laboratory gets the following number of samples for testing.

 
   Culture and sensitivity testing
    O.P.
: 320 samples / Month
    I.P.
: 170 samples / Month
    These samples include those of sputum, CSF, swabs, Blood, etc…
   Serology
    O.P.
: 900 samples / Month
    I.P.
: 300 samples / Month
    The samples include mainly testing for HIV, Hepatitis-B, Hepatitis-C, CRP, Rh – factor, Aso titre, widal test      etc…
   For RNTCP (Revised National Tuberculosis Programme)
    50-60 Samples / Month
