One among the largest clinical departments with bed strength of 102, the Department of General Medicine, occupies the entire two wards of MES Medical College Hospital. There is in addition a well equipped Medical Intensive Care Unit with 16 beds. Dr Sunny Varghese, a professor who retired from Calicut Medical College Heads the Department. He along with other three professors (all retired faculties from Calicut Medical College) form the backbone of the department which comprise of four units, each headed by one of them, assisted by a group of efficient and enthusiastic junior level faculty. The Department conducts weekly academic gatherings CME'S, (CME on recent advances in Rheumatology, first of its kind was a welll attended academic feast), conducts Rheumatology and Diabetology clinics in addition to routine teaching schedules (includes theory classes and clinical classes) and inpatient as well as outpatient care.
